Description

ARTE MESO is a 3-kilometer route featuring works of contemporary art by conceptual artist Alberto Frigo Cana. The works reflect on their being in the middle of a mountain but also between the agricultural era that is disappearing and the wilderness that is taking over.

The trail can be started by conveniently leaving your car in Santa Caterina di Tretto and walking along the SC1 trail to above Contrada Facci. From here, you'll reach the first work, a lifeboat the size of those on the Titanic.

Continuing along the trail marked by the ARTE MESO symbol, you'll approach a large circle representing a camp of hunter-gatherers who lived in harmony with the natural world for 200,000 years.

The trail then descends into a ravine where a large dreamcatcher hangs, and then climbs back up to Contrada Costenieri, where you can admire a Taoist graffiti inviting visitors to follow their nature.

After passing a sculpture of a robot where you can make an offering for the upkeep of the trail, you'll continue through Contrada Costenieri and from there, you'll climb an old municipal road that leads to a disused hunting lodge.

After climbing the road to Monte Novegno, a beautiful dirt road leads to the cube, another Frigo installation that presents his entire life story in a quasi-scientific manner. For security reasons, the installation can only be visited by booking a free tour by writing to info@artemeso.it.

From the cube, you enter an ancient beech tree forest where dendroglyphics inspired by Polynesian populations are being prepared. Then you descend along a path into a valley where a ghost inspired by the customs and traditions of the Fuegians.

From here, you reach the silhouette of a cabin, representing the volume in which the Transcendentalists took refuge from the expanding American civilization.

Then, descending along another municipal alley, reclaimed specifically for the route, you reach the asphalt road that descends to Schio and then descends into the fields where Frigo has built an open-air cinema and, finally, a large horse-shaped insect, considered by some indigenous peoples to be a shaman for connecting with nature.
